THE GREEN MOUNTAIN OVERLOOK PARK AND TRAILHEAD

The Green Mountain Overlook Park and Trailhead is located at 20700 CR 455 Lake Apopka North Shore, Minneola, Florida. The overlook provides a scenic view of Lake Apopka and the surrounding area. This park is a popular destination for motorcycle riders and car enthusiasts. The drive to this park consists of winding country roads with turns that can provide some thrills. It is also close to other popular riding destinations like the Lake Ridge winery in Clermont and the Yalaha Bakery in Yalaha. So don’t be surprised to see motorcycle or vintage car groups on your way to the park.

This park is also the trail head for a great hiking and biking trail. This trail is part of the Lake Apopka Loop Trail. The trail is a little bit rough topped with crushed gravel. The bicycle ride will be more enjoyable with a cushioned bike seat like this one. Coming from the parking area is a downward ride through several switchbacks to provide a gentle slope. This provides for a mild climb on the way back, so even beginner riders won’t have a hard time. The trail is mostly through a wooded area that provides shade for the most part. After 2 miles, the trail exits the woods and intersects with the Clay Island Loop Trail. This trail is an additional 7 miles of intersecting trails and ends at another trailhead located in Astatula. The trail also intersect with the North Shore part of the Lake Apopka Loop Trail, but that area is currently closed. The Clay Island Loop Trail also passes through several observation towers that you can climb to get a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area. If you don’t want to do the complete Clay Island Loop, you can turn around at any point and go back towards the Green Mountain Overlook Park where you started.

This trail provides a nice quiet ride or hike during the cooler months in Florida. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the Metro Orlando area. This park provides a pleasant and cheaper alternative activity in Central Florida that does not involve a theme park. I highly recommend riders and hikers to try this trail! See you out there!
